Bracknell became a New Town on 17 June 1949. Initially planned for 25,000 people, it was enlarged in the 1960s to house 45,000. It was developed as a group of neighbourhoods of around 10,000 people each. Each had its own shops, church, primary school, and community centre. The first were Priestwood, Easthampstead, Bullbrook and Harmans Water.
Today, many of the houses built then are still rented and cleaning them differs from cleaning the new estates on the town’s edge. Tenants vacating those homes can read this guide. Visit our Bracknell move-out cleaning page to find out what our professional cleaning covers.
Early New Town homes are mostly terraces and semis from the 1950s to the 1970s. Over the years, many of them have been modified. However, some features show up all the time in our Bracknell bookings:
- a downstairs toilet or cloakroom, as well as the upstairs bathroom;
- a conservatory on the back, sometimes with its own carpet and blinds;
- carpet only on the stairs, with hard floors or laminate elsewhere;
- replacement windows of different ages, with years of grime on the older frames and tracks.
While none of these is unusual, they all make house cleaning take longer than one would expect based on the bedroom count.
Older kitchens
In a house kitchen that's been rented for years, the extractor has more grease, the areas around the hinges show more grime, and the cupboards have more marks than in a new one. We clean every cupboard and drawer inside and out. The job also covers the oven, hob, extractor, fridge, freezer and the washing machine drawer and seal. We degrease the tiles and splashbacks around the cooker, vacuum, mop, and disinfect the floors.

With old extractors, cleaning won’t be enough for the filter. Let your landlord know about it before the check-out, not after.
The conservatory
It's easy to forget about the conservatory until it’s too late. Inside, we clean it as we do with any other room: internal glass, sills, frames and tracks, skirting, switches and the floor. We vacuum the carpet, if there is one. We can also run deep carpet cleaning on all carpets. It costs you 40% of the regular price.

Many conservatories have blinds; roof panels require a different service. If the conservatory blinds are on the inventory, take a photo of them before you leave.
Do you only need part of the house cleaned?
Some Bracknell bookings are only for part of the house; we've received requests for just the kitchen and bathroom, or just a balcony. It’s not unusual, especially when you’ve cleaned the entire house yourself and no longer have the energy to handle limescale or the oven. We can do partial cleans too: single rooms, or just the kitchen and bathrooms.
Book before the summer rush
This year, three in four of the Bracknell booking requests arrived between July and September. Typically, people request a job around 11 days before the clean. Does your tenancy end in the summer? Book a few weeks in advance.
